There are 32,617 new nurses, representing less than half of the total of 77,901 examinees in the state’s Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE) administered last June, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported yesterday.
"The result is very disappointing. It is even lower by 2.64 per cent from the February 2009 test, which had a 44.51 per cent passing rate,’’ Padilla said of the 41.87 passing rate in the latest state board exam.
The test was conducted on June 6 and 7 in Metro Manila, Baguio City, Cebu, Legaspi, Lucena, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Tuguegarao, Zamboanga, Pagadian, Tacloban, and Jolo.
Majority of the examinees were from Metro Manila (42,342) and Baguio City (11,336). The least number of examinees was in Jolo with only 134.
Padilla identified this batch’s topnotcher as Golda Manto Yap who was schooled in the Felipe R. Verallo Memorial Foundation in Boco, Cebu.
Meanwhile, Dr. Teresita Barcelo, president of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) said the widening mortality rate in nursing board should be a cause for concern.
Citing test results from 2008 to June 2009, she the percentage has been on the downtrend, if not unchanged, despite alleged measures undertaken by authorities concerned.
